| South Florida Urban Ministries empowers children to reach their full potential through holistic tutoring and mentoring after-school programs in Florida City, South Miami, and North Miami Beach. Our programs work with community partners and volunteers to provide individualized homework assistance, physical activities and snacks to children from low-moderate income families. |

Tutoring and Mentoring
SFLUM's programs work with community partners and caring volunteers and staff to provide individualized homework assistance with a much higher tutor/adult to student ratio than most programs as well as daily physical and character building activities to children from low-moderate income families. Our programs also include snacks for participants. Our goals include improving participant's academic achievement, physical fitness, general discipline, and awareness of the value of healthy nutrition through different activities. |

Impact
The activities we engage in to achieve these goals include a variety of reading, academic and recreation activities, as well as monthly nutrition lessons. As a testament to our success, at Branches Florida City, our model program which has been operating since 1994, 90% of the children served remain in the program for two or more years, and 96% of those who stay have been able to raise their grade levels by at least one letter grade. We seek to replicate these successes at all sites as we continue to expand.
