Examples of Americorps VISTA activities are:
Promote SFLUM and its programs through the development and implementation of print and electronic marketing and communication materials including the quarterly newsletter, e-newsletter, website and others
Assist in the expansion, replication and strengthening of the student ministries or economic development programs
Leverage resources (volunteers, donations, grants and in-kind) to support specific programs
Examples of AmeriCorps Member activities under Student Ministries are:
Tutor and mentor students through various activities such as after-school, sports, spring break camp and community service days
Develop and implement materials that further strengthen the activities above (examples are curriculum, marketing and promotion, recruitment, assessment, success stories)
Cultivate and nurture relationships with the families (specially the parents and caregivers) of students participating in our programs
Recruit and mobilize new community volunteers, partners and supporters (financial and in-kind support)
Examples of AmeriCorps Member activities under Economic Development are:
Educate, connect and provide hands-on assistance to children, families and individuals to access community resources such as matched savings, health care, tax preparation, earned income tax credit, financial literacy and other resources to help them and their families prosper.
Organize and implement community service days such as Thanksgiving (prepare and deliver 2,000 meals) and Dare to Care
Plan, coordinate and implement business development activities for low-income entrepreneurs
Recruit and mobilize new community volunteers, partners and supporters (financial and in-kind support)
AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps Members receive a monthly stipend, health insurance and an educational award upon successful completion of their service commitment. Assistance with daycare may also be provided if needed.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, embody the volunteer service spirit, able to commit to full-time volunteer service for at least 11 months, brings some relevant skills and knowledge and eager to learn. All AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps Members receive training related to their assignments, professional growth and Americorps goals.
